Today, I ran into a frustrating problem with MAGIX Vegas Pro 17.0. After years of smooth editing, Vegas suddenly refused to launch and greeted me with this gem:
Problem found in application, please reinstall.
I figured it might be a quick fix, so I uninstalled Vegas, re-downloaded the installer, and went through the entire setup process. But as soon as the installation wrapped up, I was met with a new, unwelcoming error:
"ERROR: -2147163964 occurred during installation.
Module C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 17.0\SfVstProxyStubx64.dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147024703. Contact your support personnel."
After a moment of disbelief, I started trying to figure out the root cause. I vaguely remembered installing .NET Framework 3.5 for another application a while back, so I thought maybe disabling it would help. Nope! The error persisted. During each install attempt, Vegas would start registering modules, but then—bam!—the installer would throw the error and roll everything back.
The Solution: Repairing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables
After combing through forums and experimenting, I found a solution that finally worked. It turns out that the culprit was actually my Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. Here’s what I did to fix it:
1. I downloaded and repaired both of these redistributables:
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) - Version 11.0.61030
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) - Version 11.0.61030
2. When prompted, I selected the "Repair" option for each.
3. After the repairs finished, I restarted my PC.
4. Finally, I ran the VEGAS Pro 17 installation again—and this time, it worked flawlessly!
After some research, it seems that this issue can affect other, older versions of Vegas Pro as well, so if you're having similar problems on those, give this fix a try.
So if your software is refusing to cooperate, remember to check those redistributables first—it might save you from a whole lot of reinstalling! And hey, maybe Vegas was just trying to give me a “cut” scene I didn’t ask for!
